The Effectiveness of Dysmenorrhoea Exercises and Deep Breathing Relaxation in Reducing the Intensity of Menstrual Pain in Adolescent Girls

Dysmenorrhoea is a feeling of discomfort during menstruation experienced by women which can interfere with the learning activities of young women and effective techniques are needed to reduce the pain. Non-pharmacological methods that can be used include dysmenorrhoea exercises, namely relaxation techniques using gymnastic movements, other techniques for breathing relaxation, and techniques to stimulate the brain and nervous system to produce endorphin hormones which are natural sedatives. This study aims to determine the comparative effectiveness of dysmenorrhoea exercises and deep breathing relaxation in reducing the intensity of menstrual pain in adolescent girls. The research design is quasi-experimental with a two-group pretest-post-test design. The population was 93 class X female students at SMKN 1 Pulo Ampel with a sample of 34 people divided into two using purposive sampling. The results of the study showed that the average reduction in pain intensity in adolescents with the dysmenorrhoea exercise group was 24.59. Deep breathing relaxation group 10.41. With p value = 0.000. It was concluded that dysmenorrhoea exercises were more effective in reducing the intensity of pain during menstruation than deep breathing relaxation.
