Abstract

The low level of early detection of breast abnormalities is due to women's lack of awareness in carrying out breast self-examination (BSE). This research aims to determine what factors are associated with BSE behavior in adolescent girls. The research uses a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 283 female teenage respondents at SMAN 1 Ciruas, Serang Regency. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge about BSE (61.5%), almost the majority had a positive attitude (51.2%), most were exposed to sources of information about BSE (71.4%), the majority had families who support BSE behavior (60.8%), almost the majority have peers who support BSE behavior (52.7%), and most do BSE behavior (60.1%). Factors related to BSE behavior in young women are knowledge (p: 0.003), attitudes (p: 0.003), sources of information (p: 0.000), family support (p: 0.000), and peer support (p: 0.000). It is hoped that health workers will increase outreach activities about BSE to young women, both in the community and in educational institutions
