Management of Urinary Elimination in Post Operative Turp Patients with Impaired Urinary Elimination

Abstract

Impaired Urinary elimination is one of the issues faced by patients post-transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This case study aims to understand the nursing care for urinary elimination disorders in patients post-TURP with urinary elimination management at Banten Serang General Hospital. The research method used is a case study on BPH patients post-TURP. The assessment showed that both patients experienced discomfort with the catheter, had a 3-way catheter in place, and received NaCl 0.9% 1000 cc irrigation. The nursing diagnosis of urinary elimination disorder is related to medical and diagnostic procedures (TURP). The implemented intervention was urinary elimination management. Evaluation of both patients showed no bladder distension, improved incomplete voiding, and non-reddish urine characteristics. The conclusion is that patients post-TURP for BPH indications experience urinary elimination problems. Therefore, nurses must provide comprehensive urinary elimination management care, especially regarding fluid intake and output, for patients post-TURP with BPH indications.
