Relationship between Knowledge, Age, Occupation and Support of Health Workers with the Incidence of Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Pulmonary Tuberculosis (Pulmonary TB) is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (M. Tuberculosis), this disease is chronic and can seriously attack the physical resistance of the sufferer. WHO estimates that around 10 million people fall ill from pulmonary tuberculosis in some countries ranging from 5-500 new cases per 100,000 per year with an average of 132 new cases globally per 100,000 population. Factors influencing the incidence of pulmonary TB are knowledge, age, occupation, and support of health workers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of pulmonary TB in the working area of the Kragilan Health Center, Serang Regency. This research is quantitative and uses a case-control design. The analysis conducted in this study was univariate analysis and bivariate analysis (Chi-Square). The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. Data collection method using questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation of respondents. The population of this study was 96 with 48 case samples and 48 control samples. The results of this bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge (Pv=0,004) and health worker support (Pv=0,000). While there was no relationship between age (Pv = 0,355) and occupation (Pv = 0,681). It is expected that the public to further increase their knowledge with educational readings about Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
